Hijrah or the flight/migration simbolises a new year in the Islamic calender. I don't really like to use the word flight/migration so I will use hijrah since hijrah doesn't translate to flight nor migration. It seems like hijrah is running away. We definitely relate hijrah to the historical event that happened to Prophet Muhammad SAW & Muslims that migrated from Makkah to Yathrib. But Hijrah started way earlier than that. Before hijrah, first of all they have to know why they needed to hijrah.

At that time, Muslims were oppressed, tortured, and jeered at. The people of Makkah didn't really embraced Islam. And of course it was also Allah's command to hijrah. But ok, even if they know that they need to hijrah...what happened next? Did they just gathered, packed their belongings and go? Of course they need to plan, strategise...where do they need to go... how, who else can help them.

And if we look back, they didn't just simply or concidently just went to Yathrib. Muslims went to several other places such as Ethiopia and Thaaif. Even on the way to Yathrib they stopped at Quba'. So, the Hijrah includes everything from understanding the why, the planning and implementing the Hijrah.

And the concept of Hijrah started even way before Prophet Muhammad's time. For example in Prophet Moses time, the Israelites escaped from the Pharoah in what they call as Passover. And we can also see the concept of Hijrah in Prophet Noah's escape from the big flood.

So with the new year coming, lets really understand and apply the concept of Hijrah.
Make our new years resolution, plan the work and work the plan. I wish you a happy new year, and may you achieve and succeed in what ever you plan for in this year.
